The New & Improved Indian Railways - Part 1

While travelling by Indian Railways, I noticed a good number of changes, mostly for the better. It has been more than 10 years since I used the railways. This may be the reason I noticed them. Lalu Prasad Yadav, the union rail minister, would also be the reason for these changes.

Firstly, stations are much cleaner. New and much better tiles are being installed on the platforms. Seating arrangement is also being modernized. I also noticed that the food stalls have a neat, clean and modern look and are staffed by uniformed employees. The stalls, it seems, are owned/managed by Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited - IRCTC. They look the same on all stations.

I will provide details on the rail coach interiors in my next post. Those are quite interesting too.
